2013- October 1st- Open Enrollment for Exchanges
What is a health benefits exchange?
A health benefits exchange is an organized marketplace designed to help people
purchase and enroll in health insurance coverage.

In NY State of Health, there are two separate exchanges: the Individual Exchange,
which is open to individuals and their families, and the Small Business Health
Options Program, or SHOP, which is open to small businesses with two to
50 employees.

As part of the ACA, the Department of Labor requires that employers must notify employees of coverage options available to them through New York’s exchange, NY State of Health.  Employers must issue this notice to current employees by October 1, 2013, and to employees within 14 days of their start date.
